The University of Lincoln Hogfriendly team has put together a schedule of events throughout #hedgehogweek, a national campaign at the start of May to highlight the plight of hedgehogs and how you can help them:
– Twilight Wildlife Safari // Hedgehog Week Launch (Various dates throughout May)
On Wednesday 5th at 18:00, as part of Hedgehog Week, the University of Lincoln’s Hedgehog Friendly Campus team will be launching the first in a series of Twilight Wildlife Safaris in Lincoln.
Grab a torch and join us for an evening wildlife wander around the city.
We’ll meet at the University, walk down the Fossdyke canal, and then finish back on campus near INB, hoping to see our hedgehogs on campus! Possible spottings; rabbits, herons, bats, otters, and kingfishers. You’ll learn about how to spot wildlife and what’s in our local area.
– Hogfriendly Gardening at Lincoln // Hedgehog Week
As part of Hedgehog Week, at 12:00 on Wednesday 5th May, we will be running a special hogfriendly gardening session at the Kitchen Garden.
This will include:
– An introduction to wildlife friendly gardening on campus
– A tour of our rewilded areas on the Brayford Campus
– Hogitat rebuild
– Some gardening activities (gear provided)
– Hedgehog Friendly Lincoln – An Open Meeting with BGU Hedgehog-Friendly Campus
On Thursday 6th May at 14:00, meet your BGU & UoL Hedgehog Champions, Kaylee Hempenstall and Alex Foxley-Johnson, in a virtual meet and greet event during Hedgehog Week 2021.
You’ll be able to find out what Hedgehog Friendly Campus is and what your universities have been doing because of it. We’ll also be sharing some top tips on how you can help hedgehogs locally.
– CLEAN up for Hedgehogs! A 2km litter picking event with Clean Lincoln Everywhere And Now
On Thursday 6th May at 18:00.
Did you know that hedgehogs can travel up to 2km in one night? Join us for our CLEAN Hub launch on campus and a 2km litter pick to illustrate how much litter one hedgehog can come across in a single night!
If you’re interested in this event, you will need to email us at environment@lincoln.ac.uk to book your place.
We will be running this event on the Brayford Campus and surrounding areas, focusing on where hedgehogs have been seen.
Full details of each event are available on the UoL Environment Facebook page.
