Earth Hour at the University of Lincoln

The University received a passionate letter from Year 6 students at Westgate School imploring us to take part in Earth Hour on Saturday 30th March and help them to protect and preserve the world for their future.  Earth Hour is the biggest environmental grassroots movement in the world.

Between 20:30 and 21:30 this past weekend, Lincoln SU switched off their prominent roof lighting and we turned off the lighting behind our University of Lincoln logos on campus in support.

Whilst switching off the lights may not result in a hugely perceptible drop in energy used, we hope that by taking part we can instil a “switch off culture” here at the University of Lincoln. We care passionately about the environment and our Environmental Team is dedicated to finding out ways to decrease our energy usage across campus.

Many thanks to the engineers who organised switching off the lights for us. We would encourage everyone to save energy in whatever way they can; whether that’s by switching off the lights when you leave a room, or by shutting down your pc at the end of the day. Each small action will make a large difference when totalled up together. You can read the letter we received here: Year 6 Westgate Academy Earth Hour Letter
