What's changing?
All staff and students access cards now require updating every 5 days to access the buildings and rooms on the Salto system. This is done at the silver update points and main entrances around the university estate.
All cards that are used to access buildings with the Schneider access system (e.g. Joseph Banks Laboratories and Peter de Wint building) must be updated by Security every 6-12 months. If you are experiencing issues with accessing these doors, please visit the Security Office in the Minerva Building and the Security team will be able to update your card.
Why do cards have to be updated so often?
Cards have a specific amount of memory to store information. To accommodate the amount of access across the Estate now required, it has been necessary to set the update time period to 5 days for Salto.
Most academic buildings have update points at main doors so your card will update automatically as you swipe to enter. If you are away from campus for longer than 5 days, you card will not be cancelled, but you will need to use an update point upon your next visit.
If you have any issues regarding access, please try updating your card in the first instance at an update point.
This will apply to all academic buildings across the estate, and including some accommodation; St Marks, Cygnet Wharf and 179 High Street.
What do I do if I'm still experiencing access issues?
