As part of the University’s £130m investment programme, we are constructing Cygnet Wharf, which will provide 442 new study bedrooms over three buildings on the Brayford Pool campus.
Cygnet Wharf is a key element of our Campus Masterplan. The University aims to provide all students with the opportunity to live in safe, well-managed accommodation on campus or within easy walking distance. The new development will address growing demand for purpose-built on-campus accommodation and relieve pressure on Lincoln’s private housing stock.
The development consists of three new blocks and a landscaping scheme to create high-quality public spaces around the new buildings while preserving access for water users, pedestrians and drivers.
Cygnet Wharf will be located on the south bank of the Brayford Pool, to the east and west of the Brayford Way flyover:
Planning permission was granted in April 2016 and construction commenced in May 2016. The new buildings are expected to open in 2017.

Piling is nearly complete on site and groundworks are underway including trimming piles, foundations and concrete works.
During the construction phase of Cygnet Wharf, the footpath below the University Bridge will be closed due to the location of the contractor site cabins. Temporary pedestrian signage has been installed to direct individuals to the new pedestrian route which is around Bridge House and through the tunnel under the University Bridge. The map below highlights this new route.
